About 1 percent of all stars have planets, and about 1 percent of the stars that do have planets have "earthlike" planets. This may sound like a small number but compared to the many billions of stars within our galaxy alone the number is huge. But even so the inhospitible worlds have a quality of their own that the hospitible worlds don't have. As an example look at jupiter, no life could possibley exsist there, but does earth have the patterns that exist upon jupiters clouds, no, but then again earth has features that jupiter can not have.
